A Muslim councillor in Sheffield reportedly announced that “Christmas celebrations should not be held this year.” He even suggested that Christmas lights and decorations should not be put up, saying “this is the time for Muslims.”

Even though the city’s Muslim mayor said he had nothing to do with it, the announcement spread quickly. People began asking “How can a Christian country like Britain stop celebrating Christmas?”
Local authorities said they would take action. Still, many fear that in the future, celebrating Christmas in Muslim-majority areas might require official permission similar to laws once discussed in India about religious processions.
